Taylor blasts Norquist lobby group in unusually harsh statement
- Usually reserved Congressman calls group “lying sacks of scum”
PICAYUNE, Miss., Monday, Aug. 3 — Fourth Congressional District Congressman Gene Taylor has blasted Grover Norquist, head of the Americans for Tax Reform, saying the group is “lying sacks of scum.”
In an unusually harsh blast from the usually reserved congressman, Taylor said, “Americans for Tax Reform are lying sacks of scum, and anyone who knowingly repeats this false information is a liar.”
What Taylor referred to was a press release put out by Norquist’s group, saying Taylor has changed his position on the President’s health care proposal and now favored it.
Taylor said he had not changed his position and that he does not favor it. He said Congress should first fix Medicare, Medicade and Tricare before considering any other health care legislation.
Taylor’s district encompasses the entire Gulf Coast, including Pearl River Co., and stretches northward to include Hattiesburg and Laurel.
The full text of Taylor’s statement can be seen at his website at www.taylor.house.gov. You can email Taylor by clicking on “contact Gene” in the upper right hand corner of his website. His phone number is 202-225-5772 and fax is 202-225-7074.
His address is on his website and his local office locations and phone numbers are on his website, too.
Taylor also opposed the recently House-passed cap and trade legislation. He called it a “ponzi scheme” and charged it would not reduce green house gases.
Taylor is a former state representative and lives in Bay St. Louis.
COMMENTARY: We don’t usually recommend articles here, but if you want to know what’s really going on you need to read “The Great American Bubble Machine”
Every now and then you run across a story that after you read it, it turns a lightbulb on in your head and sort of straightens out your cluttered thinking that has been caused by watching the disconnected reels of daily news you receive over the airways, in publications and through the internet.
You say, “Ah! Ha! So that’s what’s really going on! Now it makes sense.”
The article is in of all places “Rolling Stone,” a hippie-type magazine where you would not expect to find a piece like this, but on the other hand, it is perhaps the only publication that could, or would, do a blistering piece on one of the most hallowed, and feared, banking institutions in America, Goldman-Sachs.
Matt Taibbi’s piece, entitled “The Great American Bubble Machine,” has prompted howls of protests from Goldman-Sachs officials and supporters. Remember Hank Paulsen, who engineered the $700 billion bailout of Goldman-Sachs and other major investment banks, although he let Lehman Brothers fail. Lehman was Goldman’s main competitor. Paulsen was former head of Goldman.
What Taibbi maintains is that Goldman-Sachs has been behind every major bubble in the last two decades, the high-tech bubble, the housing bubble and the oil bubble and that they are now working on the next one, which will be the biggest of all, the carbon-permits trading bubble, which all depends on whether the cap-and-trade legislation passes.
Goldman-Sachs former heads and officers dot government, from Rubin, who was treasury secretary under Clinton, to Paulsen under Bush and now to Geitner under Obama. Guess who was the largest contributor to Obama’s campaign: you guessed it, Goldman-Sachs.
You would think that Wall Street bankers would be more prone to donate to Republicans. But that is not the case. They are the biggest contributor to Obama and to Democrats in Congress. And you thought the Democrats were always for the working man.
A summary of the story can be obtained by clicking here: http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/28816321/the_great_American_bubble_machine.
You wonder how gas got up to $5 a gallon last year when supplies were the highest and demand the lowest. Taibbi maintains it was Goldman and their friends. Before a barrel of oil reached the U.S. market as gasoline, it was traded on the average of 27 times on the oil futures market, says Taibbi.
The sad fact is, however, says Taibbi, is that you, the little man, can do absolutely nothing about it. They have the money, the power and the politicians in their back pockets, so they can do just about whatever they want to do.
U.S. House passes “Global Warming” bill 219 to 212
- Taylor voted against the measure
- Measure now heads to Senate, going there expected to be tough
WASHINGTON, D.C., Friday, June 26 — The U.S. House today passed the clean energy and security act 219 to 212 after an all-day debating session. The bill is also known as the “cap and trade,” “Waxman-Markey” and “global warming” bill.
Voting was along party lines with most Democrats voting in favor of the legislation, while Republicans stood firm against it.
However, eight Republicans abandoned their party’s stance and voted in favor of the historic bill, which now will go to the Senate for consideration.
And 44 Democrats, mostly conservative Blue-Dog Democrats, abandoned their party’s stance and joined Republicans in voting against the measure.

Rep. Ted Poe, R-Texas: "If this bill becomes law we will be riding bicycles and lighting our houses with candles. . ." Poe represents the Beaumont area in the U.S. House.
The vote was taken about 6:15 p.m. CST today.
Experts said the bill might face tougher opposition in the U.S. Senate than it did in the House.
Opponents of the bill painted it as a huge tax and job-destroying bill, the largest ever passed by the House, because they said the bill will suck almost $700 billion out of the economy and cause millions of layoffs in the old polluting-type industries of coal and oil.
Proponents of the legislation, mainly Democrats, said the the bill would create jobs in the “green” section of the economy, mainly wind and solar, as America is forced by the bill to shift to the more pollution-free energy production methods. Democrats said the bill will cost the average American about as much as the cost of one postage stamp each day. Republicans immediately shot back in debate, disputing that claim.
Republican estimates of costs to the average consumer went as high as $4,000 a year. They said the bill will push up costs of all forms of energy, from electricity to gas.
The 1,200-page bill was not even completely read by members of the House, as Republicans sparred with the House speaker over whether the complete bill was even available to members on the House floor. And Republican Minority Leader Rep. John Boehner, D-Ohio, aggravated the Democratic leadership by going over a 300-page manager’s amendment that was delivered to the House at 3 a.m. this morning. Boehner’s closing speech on the bill lasted over an hour.
Pelosi then took the floor and called for a vote on the bill, which she said means “jobs, jobs, jobs…”

Rep. John Boehner, R-Ohio, Republican Minority Leader: "Does this give you some idea of why the American people believe their Congress is out of touch. . ."
South Mississippi Congressman Gene Taylor’s voted against the measure. Taylor’s face was seen on the CSPAN coverage for a fleeting moment, and he said something about an amendment. Taylor’s congressional district includes Pearl River Co.
Taylor on his website said he did not favor the cap and trade legislation. In fact, he called it a “Ponzi scheme” that would push up energy expenses to average households by $1600 a year.
In order to garner the votes for passage, Democratic leaders worked overtime and cut deals to win supporters. For example a Florida Congressman was promised a $50 million deal that would fund a hurricane research center in his district in exchange for his support. There were other compromises and deals, too.
Experts say if the cap and trade law gets through the Senate and is signed by the President, it will transform the U.S. economy and industrial landscape. Although Obama has changed his rhetoric, during the campaign he admitted that if cap and trade is adopted, utility rates “will skyrocket.” One Republican debater used that quote against him during the debate today in the House.
Boehner also pointed out that the bill has provisions to help unemployed workers who will be displaced by the implementation of the law. That is an admission that the bill will cause a loss of jobs, Boehner said. Republicans said the loss of jobs would be in the millions, while Republicans said that job losses in the old-style industries will be offset by development of new jobs in the “green” sector of the economy.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had promised that she would produce a bill by the July 4 recess; however, she moved cautiously in getting it adopted, not wanting to be embarrassed by a loss that would set her policy iniative back. The main sponsors of the bill were House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., and Rep. Edward Markey, D-Mass.
The bill was modified over and over to gain the widest possible support from Democrats and some Republicans.
If the bill becomes law, Republicans are expected to use the rise in utility rates against Democrats in the 2010 races for Congress.
Eight Republicans broke rank with fellow Republicans and voted for the measure. If only four of those eight had voted against the measure, it would have failed.

Congress to vote on ‘cap and trade’ on Friday; let Gene Taylor know where you stand
- Governor said legislation will push up electrical rates 50 percent over the next few years
- Legislation is called “Waxman-Markey bill”
The U.S. House will vote on “cap and trade” legislation on Friday, June 26, it is expected, reported Mark Levin in his radio show on Tuesday, June 23.
The legislation is being passed under what is called the “Waxman-Markey bill.”
Recently, in an economic conference in Biloxi, Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour said that “cap and trade” legislation, if passed, will push up residential electricity rates more than 50 percent in the next few years.
For those who want to contact Rep. Gene Taylor and let him know where you stand, you can go to his website at www.taylor.house.gov. Click on “Contact Gene” in upper righthand corner. The Democratic leadership is trying to get the “cap and trade” legislation passed in conjunction with what is labelled global warming legislation.
You can also reach Taylor by phone at 1-202-224-3121.
You will notice that you don’t hear very much about this in the mainstream media, and the Democratic leadership counts on that silence in order to get their proposals through quickly. Pelosi is only six votes away from having enough votes to pass the measure, said Levin.
It’s too late to write a letter. In order to contact Taylor before the vote, you have to reach him either by email or phone call.
The bill is known as the American Clean Energy Act, or the Waxman-Markey bill. “Cap and trade” are policies incorporated within the bill. Pelosi said she is getting closer to having the number of votes needed to pass the legislation.
“The Wall Street Journal” has reported that cap and trade legislation is nothing more than an indirect tax on working people. Industries bid on carbon emission permits, adding additional costs to producing their product which is just passed on to consumers.
Remember corporations and industries don’t pay taxes; people do.
Says the “Journal,” “Barack Obama’s cap and trade program is nothing more than a tax on the working class.” The “Journal” added, “It is an economy-wide tax under the cover of saving the economy. . .it is a scheme to redistribute income and wealth.”
Andrew P. Morris, writing for the McClatchy-Tribune News Service, wrote, “Cap and trade sounds good, but what it offers is either a chance for politicians to rewward special interests or a road to economic ruin.”
Other reports said that Europe has already tried this program, and it was a dismal failure.
Broken down to its essentials, the program is nothing more than a tax on industrial production, and it will be passed on to the consumer to pay. Thus Barbour’s prediction that household utility rates will jump over 50 percent in the next few years if this proposal is approved.
Remember Obama’s promise that 95 percent of working class taxpayers will get a tax break. Evidently he was referring to direct taxes. The “Journal” predicts that, if passed, cap and trade will add to the average annual residential utility rates from $850 to $1500, based on the size of your home.
So if this is passed, brace yourself! That’s why it is important to get in touch with Taylor and tell him where you stand!
As late as tonight, Thursday, June 25, Pelosi was not sure she had the votes to pass the bill. Democrats were making a full-court press on blue-dog Democrats, conservative Democrats from rural areas, like, Taylor, trying to get enough votes to carry the bill on Friday.
The bill also faces opposition from Democrats in the more heavily industrialized regions of the U.S. since some critics are charging the additional taxes and costs of production will pressure manufacturing companies to move their operations overseas, which will result in a loss of jobs here.
Predictions of how much extra the bill will costs taxpayers jyrated widely, ranging from $125 annually put forth by a Democratic congressman who favored the bill on CSPAN today, to $3,500 annually charged by the Republican leadership of the House.
CSPAN will probably carry the debate and vote on the bill on Friday, as it usually carries important House sessions.

Well, the media has finally did it; they are moving into the White House with Obama
- ABC’s Charlie Gibson to report his “World News Tonight” from Blue Room of White House
Matt Drudge is reporting on his website today that ABC news will move into the Blue Room of the White House and Charlie Gibson will present his “World News Tonight” from the White House on June 24 to kick off a discussion of Obama’s health care proposal, but opponents of Obama’s proposal are fuming over it, including the GOP.
The event has created a firestorm of protests.
GOP Chairman Ken McKay called the production an “infomercial” and demanded equal time, but ABC declined his request and said they would have complete editorial control over the affair and would select those who will ask questions in an open forum on the issue.
McKay responded that the ABC production was nothing more than an “infomercial to promote the Democratic agenda,” Drudge reported. For more go to www.drudgereport.com.
It’s an interesting story, something we thought we would never see, but it is happening right before our very eyes. The mainstream media is making no pretense now. What do you think about this? Send us your comment on it.
COMMENTARY: You will see the moral double-standard applied to Obama’s Supreme Court nominee, Sotomayor
The “New York Times” recently reported that Obama’s pick for the Supreme Court, Sonia Sotomayor, speaking at a UofC Berkeley conference, said, “I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experience would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.”
Now picture Bush appointing a white, conservative Republican to the Supreme Court, and the mainstream media finds in his background this statement: “I would hope that a wise white male with the richness of his experience would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a Latina woman.”
Needless to say, as Justice Thomas once said, there would be a high-tech lynching.
How do they get away with blatant bias that borders on racism. You explain this to me! There is no doubt that there is a moral double-standard at work here. When a liberal says it, it’s okay. She really didn’t mean it that way. But let a conservative make a statement like that and it’s to the barricades, attack!
You Figure This One Out!
Recent news reports said that the FBI and Homeland Security are investigating returning veterans, looking for what they call right-wing extremists who might be recruited by militant militia groups here.
Now let me get this straight: Islamic extremists killed 3,000 innocent American citizens on 9/11, more than were killed at Pearl Harbor, and we are currently fighting them in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the FBI and Homeland Security will begin investigating the very citizens who are placing their lives on the line for our security and freedoms.
When in God’s name will we vote out this nutcase Congress and politicians who coddle our enemies and harass our fellow patriots?
We have lost something in this country that we once had: good old American patriotic common sense. We are now led by a bunch of blind politicians who are incapable of drawing common sense moral distinctions.
